Jackeline Olivier comes from Porto Alegre, a city in the south of Brazil, but has been cast as every ethnicity not just the typical Latina. Jackie began her acting career early. At age ten she played a weeping widow in the school play. Teachers, schoolmates and family, moved by the performance, encouraged her to become an actress. Ten plays, 13 films and loads of TV appearances later, "Jackie O" continues to live on the passionate edge of her art. She appeared in Day of the Dead 2: Contagium (2005), directed by James Glenn Dudelson and Ana Clavell. Jackie describes her character Vicky as "a self-centered, evil, cunning junkie". Jackie had a death scene in "Contagium" that went on for hours, as the scene following her character's death involved a small room where eight people were fighting around her, falling and stepping on her. She had to stay still with her eyes closed and remember she was dead. Jackie's a team player and appreciates this quality in others.
She has also appeared in The Dream of Alvareen (2009) with director Alexander Lehr, Boppin' at the Glue Factory (2009) with Jeff Orgill and Apartment 6 (2006), directed by John Pietros. Fearless and a risk taker, Jackie leaves the ego behind to embrace broken and complex characters. She refuses to be stereotyped as a luscious Latin babe--she not only has a body but also a soul, a workaholic who creates her own projects and revels in the backbreaking agony-ecstasy of live theatre. Her Equity-waiver ensemble production of "Pilgrims of the Night" at the Stella Adler Theatre won her raves from LA Weekly. It was a "physically exhausting" role involving 14 onstage 20-second wardrobe changes, 120 lighting cues, 70 sound cues and 30 video cues. She helped produce it, painted flats and created her own wardrobe.
She is never sitting still, she's a member of Filmmakers Alliance and The Creative Actos Alliance.- At the age of six she moved from Pelotas, a city in Brazil's extreme south, to São Paulo with her family. In 1950, she attended the University of São Paulo's (USP) 'School of Dramatic Art' and set up a theater group called 'Jovens Independentes' (Young Independents). She married for the first time at age of eighteen.
Her professional career began at São Paulo's TV Tupi (Brazil's first television station) in 1959, in the soap opera "Um Lugar ao Sol (1959)", directed by Dionísio Azevedo.
In 1962 she starred in the classic film The Given Word (1962) ('O Pagador de Promessas'), the only Brazilian film to win the 'Palme d'Or' at the Cannes Film Festival in France, and the first South American film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 1963, alongside Tarcísio Meira, she had her first starring role in Brazil's first daily live television soap opera, 2-5499 Ocupado (1963), broadcast by TV Excelsior, now extinct. From this soap opera on, the two actors began appearing together as a successful working and married couple in over fifteen TV productions.
She is considered one of the main Brazilian actresses, as she has played several outstanding characters during her career on TV, films, and in theater, including the role of 'Doris' in the Brazilian production of Bernard Slade's romantic comedy play 'Same Time, Next Year'. - Actor

Brazilian-born Tizuka Yamasaki, a granddaughter of Japanese immigrants, has lived one of Brazil's most complicated identity crossroads. As a result, Yamasaki's films frequently deal with intersection of gender, race, nationality and ethnicity in Brazilian culture, pushing the question of what it means to be Brazilian.
Born in Porto Alegre, Yamasaki grew up in São Paulo. She was drawn to filmmaking in the early seventies in Brazil, despite the social and financial risks of the career path. She was trained in the politically oriented style of Cinema Novo by Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Glauber Rocha.
Yamasaki's first feature film, Gaijin - Brazilian Odyssey is the story of a Japanese family's emigration to Brazil at the turn of the century. It won her awards at the Cannes International Film Festival, the Georges Sadoul Award, the International Festival of New Latin American Movies, the Women's International Film Festival, and the International Film Festival of New Delhi.
